NZ – A PARTNERSHIP TO BANK ON!

New Zealand played against Sri Lanka in the 3rd match of the ICC CWC19. New Zealand presented a pretty tough challenge for Sri Lanka in the first innings while fielding but then the more fascinating part of the match took place in the second innings when New Zealand chased down over a 100 runs and won by 10 wickets.

FINAL SCOREBOARD.

The partnership of Martin Guptill and Colin Munro, each scoring a half century, brough in swiftly but steadily a win in the bag for New Zealand. Only 13 players took to the crease to bat that day, but only 2 of them were from the New Zealand side.

The opening partnership of Guptill and Munro scored a total of 137 runs of just 16.1 overs at 8.5 runs per over.

Both the batsmen played attacking from early on and tried to pick up every ball, especially they used Malinga’s ball a lot to add runs as his balls were just perfect for them to hit it for boundaries. Lakmal provided some challenge but still a strong partnership enabled the batsmen to steadily attack him as well.

Such strong opening partnerships are going to be the key to victory in this world cup as a strong opening partnership also enables the middle order to play strong because the pressure decreases and everyone knows it is the toughest to bat in the middle order.

The opening partnership is key to any team as if they remain strong, the bowlers get frustrated and also wickets remain in the bag for onslaught later in the game.
