F1 2020 PRE – SEASON TESTING WEEK 1 – SHORT ANALYSIS

The Formula 1 season is about begin in less than a month and the pre – season tests have already begun. All the cars look great with some great livery and structural designs. Even the mechanical designs and engineering of the car system is very interesting. A look at three teams.

Williams came out first on track this year and got a bunch of laps under their car. This year’s Williams looks way more promising than last year’s. Especially, with the little extra pace that they seem to have picked up. They also have a different lineup this year with NICHOLAS LATIFI replacing ROBERT KUBICA. The young rookie seems to be promising, especially as per the data available on him. With two young drivers and a good enough car, the question still remains that can they break the Q1 barrier and enter Q2!

Ferrari did not look very promising with their pace this time around especially against Mercedes. They also did face Power issues again, which as mentioned before is a concern for the Ferrari team as it has happened multiple times before as well. If power supply, is a reason due to which Ferrari are unable to win a Grand Prix, then it will be a big shame. Ferrari also need to increase and show their pace in the 2nd week of testing or else a lot of question await them, especially as Red Bull seem to have improved as compared to their last year’s performance.

MERCEDES –

Mercedes have shown their pace but the main talking point has been their DAS steering wheel system. This steering wheel system will help Mercedes a lot in beating their competition. This will increase speeds on straights and even provide a more balanced heating to the front tyres as the wheels face forward instead of being in a toe – in position. This extra speed will may help them cover up for any losses of speed due to other reasons. This might also solve some heating problems, such as excessive heating of a specific region of the tyre. This might help spread the heating more evenly and extend tyre life. It will be very interesting to see if Mercedes exploit this more.

Bet of luck to all TEAMS!
