20 OF THE 2020 – PART 2 – STYRIAN GRAND PRIX

All Drivers completed the Wet Qualifying Sessions trying to give their best and some qualified with pole position whereas some surprisingly failed to qualify at the expected or wanted grid positions. The factor of rain surely did affect the qualifying laps of each and every driver a lot with the fastest lap being about 15 seconds slower than in Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying

The expectation were that Racing Point would put both their drivers in the Top 10 but what the rain lead to was neither of the two Racing Points reaching the 3rd Qualifying Session, which also included the surprise or Sergio Perez failing to even reach Q2.

Williams were helped a little by the rain as at the same time when other drivers were failing to post competitive time. George Russell was able to push his car to the 12th position with controlled driving and a difference of only 8 thousandths of a second gap to Charles Leclerc in the 11th position and a 9 tenth of a second gap to Sebastian Vettel in Q2.

WILLIAMS HAVE GOT RUSSELL

Russell was able to strike the right balance in his Williams as he qualified a spectacular 12th in a wet qualifying session. He was able to keep the car on tracks at all time but didn’t get enough handling to just cover up 9 tenths of a seconds. He seemed to failing to do his best in the third sector of his laps and that is where many were losing out. If Williams are able to keep this progress continuing and manage to better their racing pace in the long run, then they have a very good chance at getting more than a single point in the 2020 F1 season.

The one factor that also gives Russell the confidence is the extra reliability in the Williams than the other cars at the back of the grid. Russell will do wonders in a better car but no other team, which is Mercedes, have place for him at the moment. If he stays with Williams long enough, the he can help a lot in the development. One thing that was evident was that it was not only Russell but the car itself which was performing very good.

NO SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS FOR FERRARI

Ferrari haven’t performed very well in either of two practice sessions or the Qualifying and seem to suggest that what they need is the right engine at the moment which they don’t have.

MCLAREN HAVE A LOT OF IMPROVEMENTS

MCLAREN LOGO

McLaren have developed their car very well. McLaren have a very good car with no issues and have the ability to lead the midfiel under all circumstances. McLaren do not have anything that they need to change to stay in the spotlight but they need to do is to understand how to tune their car just properly. If the data s analysed then McLaren are not the fastest in the midfield in terms of the pace analysis but when the car is put into action with the drivers, the drivers are able to use the car’s speed and qualifying results to give better performance than the data expects them to.
