STRATEGY IS THE ROAD TO VICTORY

The Spanish Grand Prix 2020 made one thing very clear and that was the point that strategy is the road to victory. Lewis Hamilton won due to his strategy and some lost due to their strategy. The race was crash proof one but did show some spectacular overtakes on a circuit normally known to be one where overtakes are rare. The pit stops played an important role, especially as in regards to tyre the story between Mercedes and Red Bull was different this time around., in comparison with the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton won the race from Pole as he broke the record of most podium finishes, Kimi Räikkönen finished 14th, starting from his best grid position in 2020 also becoming the driver who has driven the longest distance in total in his F1 career in races as Sebastian Vettel, who had a spectacular finish became only the 2nd driver to reach 3000 points in his F1 career. Valtteri Bottas also got his 50th F1 podium.

RED BULL NEED TO EITHER DO GOOD WITH ALEX OR NOT HAVE A 2ND DRIVER

Red Bull seem to be taking their second driver, Alexander Albon, as an experimental human being. There car which Max Verstappen drives seems to be more fine tuned and they seem to experiment less and take better strategy calls with him. Alexander Albon may not qualify that well but his performance is very well with good strategy calls. In the last two races, he has lost out a lot due to the messy strategy calls.

Alexander Albon can do a lot if he gets equal opportunities and chances and better strategic calls.

GASLY HAD A CONSIDERABLY GOOD RACE

He did not lose places in comparison to his starting grid position and gave some tough fight to his competitors. His defending was also great but probably the best one was by the McLaren duo. Pierre Gasly drove very well and was in a fight for position till the end. He was able to again completely gain control of his car and keep the pressure on for his fellow drivers. He again had a more attentive and better drive than his teammate.

KIMI’S EXPERIENCE HAS HIM GOOD

Kimi Räikkönen was able to have a very good race, especially in a car like Alfa Romeo. He was successful in defeating the competition at the back and at times also challenge the racers in front. He is compromised in terms of the car he drives but he still surely has that talent is what he showed in the Grand Prix. He needs a slightly faster car but the Ferrari engine and the incapability of Alfa Romeo to work around the other components is compromising his performance.

MERCEDES DON’T HAVE IT SOLVED

Mercedes came back pretty boldly but still had a lot of issues. Valtteri Bottas still was facing issues in his last stint just like in Britain. Mercedes are not being able to find the perfect balance between everything. Mercedes may have more trouble coming for them but it is not only Mercedes a their immediate competitor Red Bull also have a lot of mess to clean up.

As we see other teams also getting a hang of everything on race day, it become very crucial for Mercedes to work out better plans and combinations as they have a very good speed but if they drop back, then t becomes hard for them to come back up that well.
