DREAM11 IPL 2020 – 1 WEEK DOWN – ANALYSIS

The DREAM11 IPL 2020 has completed one successful week, and each team has played a minimum of two matches and a lot of analysis is in place. The first week was an experiment week for each team, especially as this time the venues were different than they were initially expecting and had made their teams according to, there was unavailability of some players for some teams.

There is a lot of analysis and a lot of understanding that has been a result and all of that to an extent in this blogpost/article.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

They have gotten a lot to work out. The conditions should suit them more as the league progresses but their batting line up and their experiments with are a little messed up. Their bowlers are fine but they spinners, like Chawla are not getting their lines and lengths correct. Imran Tahir has been benched as they look to get other foreign players in their playing XI but it seems like they need to give him a chance over Chawla for one match.

Their fast bowlers and seamers are doing pretty well, what they need to work on is their fielding a little, which is a little rusty and definitely their batting. They have got the power and the skills in their batting line – up but what they are missing is the proper utilisation of the same. Kedar Jadhav is going too slow and is not fitting in correctly; M.S. Dhoni is still not completely in his form and is still missing that touch. He is very crucial to CSK’s destiny in IPL 2020; Sam Curran needs to work on staying on the pitch for longer while batting and score those quick runs but staying in a little longer as well.

CSK can still work their way upto the Top – 4 by the end of the league matches but it will be tough.

DELHI CAPITALS

Delhi Capitals are doing very good. Their first match was actually a loss but a weird wrong decision by the umpires, had Delhi Capitals win the first match as per the record books and the scorecard. Delhi have been able to utilise their batsmen properly. They still have some areas to work on such as the opening partnership but the individual performances from the batsmen are able to help Delhi Capitals to get those high scores.

Their bowling line up is also formidable with a good mix of bowlers, and they have some exceptional spinners. They need to work out the best combination for them as that will help them later on in the league when teams start understanding their bowlers better. Delhi Capitals have a lot of young talent and they are performing well. Kagiso Rabada and Marcus Stoinis are the key players from them because they provide the trust and the support that is required.

Their winning strike will most probably end in Week 2 itself, since they have a good team but the lack of experience will lead to them having a loss very soon, especially when the class bowlers get in.

KINGS XI PUNJAB

A great captain, great opening pair, great bowlers and great fielding. The perfect package somewhat but they are lacking the luck that they require.

They have gotten a very good bowling line up which is also very balanced since they have Bishnoi, Shami, M. Aswin, Cottrell and a lot more and that is what is required. They are missing a little bit of consistecy in Cottrell and Bishnoi is still figuring out his game a bit, otherwise they knwo how and when to strike.

Their batting line up is mainly powered by the opening pair, and such a good opening pair helps the others down the order a lot, and if they continue this performance, they will be looking at big scores throughout the season.

Their fielding is awesome and tight. But they still need to work out their field more according to the batsman. Nicholas Pooran’s save vs RR was spectacular.

Their captain is also being able to keep the pressure off him and rotate his bowlers well and even bat well himself. The captain needs to stay in his peaceful mind and get his team going.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

They have some serious problems to deal with. Their squad is great and they have a host of talent but KKR need to convert it properly. The first match that they lost was also a bit of bad luck and the second match, which they won, also showed the issues that KKR are facing. Bowlers are great but the team need to work out their placement and find out as to who is required at what time. In their batting, they have a host of power and skills but Dk, the captain, is not getting that focus on and is failing miserably. Sunil Narine is failing and what is happening as a result is that even 2 quick wickets, as said in the SWOT analysis post, KKR become very vulnerable.

Eoin Morgan, has taken up in a way the support leader role, and that is great. In batting, he isn’t doing the greatest at the moment and it seems that he will start performing better and get those runs in as the matches come his way because he is still trying to find his area as of yet. Andre Russell is a key bowler but consistency will be key. Shubman Gill shines again. Nitish Rana also has failed a bit. What KKR need to work on is protecting their wickets.

In the bowling part, they have the lanet and Pat Cummins performed well when the given the right opportunity and time. He also struck the ball pretty well when he came down to bat. They have some quality spinners and fast bowlers, all they need to do it to work out how to use, when to use and whom to use since, even a lot of bowlers can be damaging not only to their performance but also to the balance of the team.

MUMBAI INDIANS

They have a god team again and they look in the mix of winning several matches since their team is pretty balanced. They have some great players and their batting line up is especially good and balanced and they are performing that well since it goes deep and one or the other batsman helps create the partnerships.

Their team is helped by the all – rounders that they posses and the full – time complete bowlers that they have are just exceptional, since they are some of the best that they could ask for. They have Bumrah and Trent duo which helps them rotate a little and keep one for the death overs while bowl the other out a little faster as both are great. Chahar, and the Pandyas help cover the rest of the overs in good way for MI because all of them are in – form.

Mumbai Indians can face some issues when they go to other grounds to play, to adjust and to find their form but they shouldn’t face any such big problems this time around. The first match, which they failed in, just didn’t go their way or else they aren’t that bad.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

Rajasthan have two assets – their bowlers and their top 3 batsman. That is it. They can fail easily when they are a) not in Sharjah – as they are mainly just capitalising on the short boundaries and the batsmen favourable and friendly conditions; b) Two wickets in the powerplay – That is all, since, there main power only lies in the first few batsmen after that a moderate bowling, with good fielding against them can have RR losing the game.

Rajasthan Royals can suffer a lot if they lose 2 quick wickets, and especially if they are outside of Sharjah. That is where the key for the other teams lies. It is simple. As simple as that. Rahul Tewatia has a lot of power and they have a good batting line up but a good line while bowling is what can seal the game for their opponents.

The bowling power for RR lies in Jofra Archer, and their spinners mainly. Jofra Archer is doing some great power hitting as well. They understand where their strengths and weaknesses lie and that is definitely going to help them.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

They are suffering again, both in their bowling as well in their batting. The fast bowling in the bowling line up is suffering a lot and that is very damaging to their side and that will affect them a lot. Their spin bowling strikes again and that is helping them a bit but if they don’t et their other bowlers on track then that will be very damaging for them as the league moves forwad.

Their batting line uo has two issues, 1) consistency – they are suffering with consistency and hence, they cant depend on any of their batsmen solely, 2) the pressure – something that they will have a problem with handling since there is a lot of pressure on a few select batsmen. This will keep affecting them as it always does and hence, their glory seems to be far.

Fielding isn’t the greatest and remains a concern. RCB have a lot to work on.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD.

It is the weak middle order in their batting line up that is plaguing them. That is where the problem lies for them and there is no such solution for that as well. SRH might become a sitting duck which can be beaten easily for some of their opponents.

Their bowling line up consists of some of they best fast bowlers, seamers as well as spinners and that is what is key to them performing them well. SRH have the bowling that they require but if they don’t get their batting line up. Nothing can help them.
