Chennai Super Kings are sitting majestically at the top of the table with almost no chance of failing to qualify for the playoffs. CSK can only get out of the playoffs if by some persons curse they lose
CSK look in good position right now to do what they should be doing, and that is experimenting with their playing XI. CSK also need to focus on winning already 3 of the next matches to be in the safe zone and play the Qualifier and not the Eliminator which can also be influenced by their NRR which is very low at the moment.
So, how does CSK manage both? Experimenting with the team is not so necessary for winning this season as most of the other teams who are in a position to qualify for the playoffs will not get much time to experiment but yes, if CSK do experiment that will prepare an element of surprise for the other teams. This will also help CSK decide their next year’s team.
So, to succeed in this balancing act, CSK need to retain their core experienced team which should include the following players:-
1. Shane Watson
2. Ambati Rayudu
3. Harbhajan Singh
4.. M. S. Dhoni
5. Suresh Raina
6. Ravindra Jadeja
7. Deepak Chahar
CSK may try and drop Faf and Tahir for one match to try out other players. CSK need Dhoni’s captaincy as it is his captaincy which is CSK’s lifeline because without his captaincy, almost all the talent in the team will not bear the perfect fruit. CSK look in great form to reach the finals.
